A government panel report points out that with 5G, the peak network data speeds are expected to be in the range of 2-20 Gigabit per second (Gbps). This is in contrast to 4G link speeds averaging 6-7 Megabit per second (Mbps) in India as compared to 25 Mbps in advanced countries. The standards for the usage of 5G are defined and driven by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

The fourth technological revolution is the current and developing environment during which disruptive technologies and trends like the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, computer games (VR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are changing the way we live and work.
Two of the three private telcos, BhartiAirtel and Vodafone have expressed concern about the auction stating that the reserve price of those airwaves is extremely high. Besides the spectrum, 5G would require a fundamental change to the core architecture of the communication system. A report has stated that the industry might require a further investment of $60-70 billion to seamlessly implement 5G networks.
