Fairs and Festivals of Rajasthan are very well-known for their hospitality, vibrant culture, royalty, history, and rich heritage. The Rajasthani culture, traditions, and famous festivals of Rajasthan give you a factual sight of its prosperous inheritance.

Fairs and Festivals of Rajasthan: Rajasthan is a land of fairs & festivals, but before we can get an understanding of these it is essential to learn the names of Indian Seasons & months, as the Indian festivals & fairs are organized based on the Hindi calendar, which is LUNAR.

• In the Hindu calendar, the year begins with 1- Chaitra:
• The first day after the new moon (Amavasya)
• New Year of Vikram Samvat (2076 in 2019)
• New Year of Saka Samvat (Official Government calendar)
• 1 Chaitra = 22 march (Normal year) & 21 March (Leap year)
• Chaitra = 30 days (normal year) & 31 days (Leap year)

List of Fairs and Festivals of Rajasthan

Teej Fair

• It celebrates two things – a woman’s love for her husband and the advent of the monsoon season.
• It is an auspicious event for women.
• A procession of Goddess Parvati is carried out in Jaipur with lots of devotees singing bhajans and dancing and enjoying the festival.

Pushkar Festival

• It is a five days camel and livestock fair held in Pushkar.
• It is celebrated on Kartik Ekadashi when Pushkar Lake was supposed to be constructed by Brahma.
• This five days festival is celebrated with art, music, dance, puppet shows, gypsy dance, races, competitions, etc.

Desert Festival

• It is celebrated in the golden city of Rajasthan, Jaisalmer.
• It’s a three-day event organized in the month of February.
• Camels also are one of the main highlights of this event as they take part in camel polo, camel dance and some other contests.
• The entire city of Jaisalmer is active with colours, music and dance, Rajasthani men and women dressed wonderfully in hued costumes sing and dance on the memorable ballads of valor, romance and tragedy.

Nagaur Fair

• It is celebrated for eight days in the month of January and February.
• It is mainly known for animal trading like horses, cows, bullocks, oxen, camels etc.
• Animal races, cockfighting and Dancing and singing in the night are the main centre of attraction for tourist.
• It is organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry.

Gangaur Festival

• This eighteen days festival is one of the most significant festivals for women of Rajasthan.
• It is celebrated in the honour of goddess Parvati, who is believed to be the goddess of marital happiness.
• Processions of Goddess Gauri are carried all over the city and everyone participates in these processions, often accompanied by elephant processions, old palanquins, chariots,  folk song and dance and often ends with fireworks.

Camel Festival

• It is celebrated in Bikaner.
• The two-day long festival is celebrated in the month of January.
• It includes camel races and games and a parade of decorated camels.
• It also includes Rajasthani Folk performances.

Mewar Festival

• It is celebrated in Udaipur on the occasion of the advent of the spring season.
• This festival includes a number of practices, like dressing the idols of Isar and Gangaur and carrying them in a conventional procession through different parts of the city.
• It is a three days festival.

Urs Festival

• It is the most important festival of the Muslim community as it marks the death anniversary of the Sufi saint, Khwaja Moin-ud-din-Chisti.
• It is celebrated on the lakeside of Ajmer city.
• The festival takes place in the first six days of the seventh month of the Islamic calendar, known as Rajab. 
• It is celebrated for six days because it is believed that the Khwaja Moinuddin cooked for six days before he left his mortal remains.

Kite Festival

• International Desert Festival is celebrated in Jodhpur district.
• It’s a three days festival celebrated on the occasion of Makarsankranti.
• Colourful kites in the sky are the main centre of attraction for tourist.

Brij Holi

• It is celebrated for two days in the Shukla Paksha of the Phagun month.
• This festival is dedicated to Lord Krishna.
• The best part of this festival is the Raslila dance performed with great zest and unity.
• The festival is celebrated with great splendour and ceremony in Deeg, Kaman, and Bharatpur in the Bharatpur District.

राजस्थान के मेले और त्यौहार अपने आतिथ्य, जीवंत संस्कृति, रॉयल्टी, इतिहास और समृद्ध विरासत के लिए बहुत प्रसिद्ध हैं। राजस्थानी संस्कृति और परंपरा और राजस्थान के प्रसिद्ध त्यौहार आपको इसकी समृद्ध विरासत की एक तथ्यात्मक दृष्टि प्रदान करते हैं।

तीज मेला

• इसमें दो चीजों – एक पत्नी का अपने पति के प्रति प्यार और मानसून सत्र का आगमन।
• यह महिलाओं के लिए शुभ त्योहार है।
• जयपुर में देवी पार्वती की पूजा की जाती है जिसमें कई भक्त भजन गाते हैं और महोत्सव में नाचते गाते हैं।

पुष्कर मेला

• यह पुष्कर में पांच दिनों तक चलने वाला ऊंट और पशु मेला है।
• यह कार्तिक एकादशी के दिन मनाया जाता है, जब ब्रह्मा ने पुष्कर झील का निर्माण किया था।
• इस पांच दिवसीय महोत्सव को कला, संगीत, नृत्य, कठपुतली नाच, जिप्सी नृत्य, दौड़, प्रतियोगिता आदि के साथ आनंदपूर्वक मनाया जाता है।

रेगिस्तानी महोत्सव

• इसे राजस्थान की गोल्डेन सिटी जैसलमेर में मनाया जाता है।
• यह फरवरी के महीने में आयोजित होने वाला तीन दिवसीय महोत्सव है।
• ऊंट इस महोत्सव का मुख्य आकर्षण होता है क्योंकि इस महोत्सव में ऊंट पोलो, ऊंट नृत्य और कुछ दूसरी प्रतियोगिताएं होती हैं।
• जैसलमेर का पूरा शहर रंगों, संगीत और नृत्य से सराबोर हो जाता है, राजस्थानी पुरुष और महिलाएं रंग-बिरंगे लिबास में आश्चर्यजनक रूप से सजते हैं और साहस, रोमांस और आपदा के स्मरणीय गाथागीत पर नृत्य करते हैं।

नागौर मेला

• यह जनवरी और फरवरी महीने के आठ दिनों तक मनाया जाता है।
• यह घोड़ों, गायों, बैलों, ऊंटों आदि जानवरों के व्यापार के लिए मुख्यतः लोकप्रिय है।
• पशु दौड़, मुर्गों की लड़ाई और रात्रि नृत्य और गायन पर्यटकों के लिए आकर्षण का मुख्य केन्द्र है।
• इसे पशु पालन विभाग द्वारा आयोजित किया जाता है।

गणगौर महोत्सव

• अठारह दिनों वाला यह महोत्सव राजस्थान की महिलाओं के लिए सबसे महत्वपूर्ण है।
• यह देवी पार्वती के सम्मान में मिलाया जाता है, जिन्हें विवाह प्रसन्नता की देवी के रूप में माना जाता है।
• पूरे शहर भर में देवी गौरी की पूजा की जाती है और इस पूजा में सभी लोग भाग लेते हैं, पूजा में अक्सर हाथी, पुरानी पालकियां, रथ भाग लेते हैं जो कि लोक गीत, नृत्य और पटाखों के साथ पूरा होता है।

ऊंट महोत्सव

• यह बीकानेर में मनाया जाता है।
• इस दो दिन लंबे महोत्सव को जनवरी के महीने में मनाया जाता है।
• इसमें ऊंटों की दौड़ और खेल और सजे-धजे ऊंटों की परेड शामिल है।
• इसमें राजस्थानी लोक नृत्यक भी शामिल होते हैं।

मेवाड़ महोत्सव

• यह महोत्सव उदयपुर में बसंत ऋतु के आगमन के अवसर पर मनाया जाता है।
• इस महोत्सव में कई प्रकार के कार्यक्रम होते हैं जैसे ईश्वर और गंगौर की मूर्तियों को सजाना और उन्हें शहर के विभिन्न भागों में पारंपरिक पूजा के साथ घुमाना।
• यह एक तीन दिवसीय महोत्सव है।

उर्स महोत्सव

• यह मुस्लिम समुदाय का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण त्योहार है क्योंकि यह दिवस सूफी संत ख्वाजा मोइन-उद-दीन-चिश्ती के मौत के वर्षगांठ के अवसर होता है।
• यह अजमेर शहर में झील के किनारे मनाया जाता है।
• यह महोत्सव इस्लामिक कैलेंडर, रजाब के सातवें महीने के पहले छह दिनों में मनाया जाता है।
• यह पहले छह दिन मनाया जाता है क्योंकि ऐसा माना जाता है कि ख्वाजा मोइद्दीन ने अपने नश्वर शरीर को छोड़ने से पहले छह दिनों तक खाना पकाया था।

पतंग महोत्सव

• अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पतंग महोत्सव जोधपुर जिले में मनाया जाता है।
• यह मकरसंक्राति के अवसर पर तीन दिनों तक चलने वाला महोत्सव है।
• पर्यटकों के लिए आकाश में रंगबिरंगी पतंगों को उड़ते देखना आकर्षण का केन्द्र है।

बृज होली

• यह फागुन महीने की शुक्ल पक्ष में दो दिन तक मनाया जाता है।
• यह महोत्सव भगवान कृष्ण को समर्पित है।
• इस महोत्सव का सबसे अच्छा भाग बड़े उत्साह और समूह में मिलकर रासलीला नृत्य है।
• यह महोत्सव बहुत धूमधाम के साथ मनाया जाता है और भरतपुर जिले में दीग, कामन और भरतपुर में त्योहार होता है।
