Basically, there were two kinds of Indian Socio-Cultural Movement reform in the 19th century in India:
- Reformist –
These movements responded to the time and scientific temper of the modern era.
- Revivalist–
These movements started reviving ancient Indian traditions and thoughts and believed that western thinking ruined Indian culture and ethos.

(Indian Socio-Cultural Movement)
मूल रूप से, भारत में 19 वीं सदी में दो तरह के सामाजिक-सांस्कृतिक सुधार आंदोलन हुए:
- सुधारवादी –
इन आंदोलनों ने आधुनिक युग के समय और वैज्ञानिक स्वभाव के साथ प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त की। - पुनरुत्थानवादी –
इन आंदोलनों ने प्राचीन भारतीय परंपराओं और विचारों को पुनर्जीवित करना शुरू कर दिया और माना कि पश्चिमी सोच ने भारतीय संस्कृति और लोकाचार को बर्बाद कर दिया।

परमहंस मंडली | 1849 | दगोबा पांडुरंग | बैठकों के दौरान निम्न जाति के लोगों द्वारा तैयार भोजन सदस्यों द्वारा ग्रहण किया जाता था।परमहंस मंडल ने विधवा पुनर्विवाह और महिला शिक्षा का समर्थन किया |
सत्यशोधक समाज | 1873 | ज्योतिबा फुले | फुले ने जाति व्यवस्था और सामाजिक-आर्थिक असमानताओं के उन्मूलन का लक्ष्य निर्धारित कियाइस आंदोलन ने अवसादग्रस्त समुदायों को पहचान को बढ़ावा दिया। |
सर्वेन्ट्स ऑफ़ इंडिया सोसाइटी | 1905 के | गोपाल कृष्ण गोखले | समाज का उद्देश्य:भारत में कार्य करने हेतु मिशनरियों को प्रशिक्षित करना;सभी संवैधानिक तरीकों के माध्यम से भारतीयों के हितों को बढ़ावा देना;निस्वार्थ कार्यकर्ताओं का एक कैडर तैयार करना जो अपने जीवन को धार्मिक भावना के माध्यम से देश के लिए समर्पित कर सके |
रामकृष्ण मिशन | 1897 | स्वामी विवेकानंद | मिशन: परमार्थ (सेवा), व्यवहार (व्यवहार) के बीच के अंतराल को समाप्त करना, तथा आध्यात्मिकता और दैनिक जीवन को एक दूसरे से जोड़नाउन्होंने स्वतंत्रता, समानता, और स्वतंत्र विचार की भावना का समर्थन किया। |
आर्य समाज | 1875 | स्वामी दयानंद सरस्वती | वेदों की स्वीकृति सत्य का एकमात्र स्रोत है।मूर्ति पूजा का विरोध।उन्होंने ईश्वर-अवतार और धार्मिक तीर्थों के सिद्धांत का विरोध किया।वह वेदों के मंत्रों के पाठ और ‘हवन’ और ‘यज्ञ’ के प्रदर्शन में विश्वास करते थे।स्त्री शिक्षा में आस्था।बाल-विवाह और बहु विवाह का विरोध। |
सेवा सदन | 1908 | बेहरामजी एम. मालाबारी | बाल विवाह के खिलाफ और हिंदुओं में विधवा पुनर्विवाह के लिए काम किया। उनके प्रयासों के कारण महिलाओं की आयु (सहमति प्राप्त करने योग्य) को निर्धारित करने के लिए आयु की सहमति अधिनियम को विनियमित किया गया। |
