Important Grasslands of the World

Important Grasslands of the World- Ghasbhoomi or Viharbhoomi or Chamanzar is such a wide area where grasses and small shrubs are spread far and wide. In such places, there may be trees here and there, but most of the land is covered with grass. Grasslands are found on every continent except Antarctica and are often known by local names.
घासभूमि या विहारभूमि या चमनज़ार ऐसे विस्तृत क्षेत्र को कहते हैं जहाँ दूर-दूर तक घास और छोटे झाड़ फैले हुए हों। ऐसी जगहों पर जहाँ-तहाँ वृक्ष भी हो सकते हैं लेकिन भूमि के अधिकतर हिस्से पर घास ही बिछी हुई होती है। अंटार्कटिका को छोड़कर घासभूमियाँ हर महाद्वीप पर पाई जाती हैं और अक्सर स्थानीय नामों से जानी जाती हैं।

Grassland ecosystems cover about 10 percent of the Earth’s surface. The area which is dominated by herbaceous plants and mainly plants of the Poaceae family is called grassland. Cyperaceae and Junkesia plants are also found in grassland areas.

ग्रासलैंड इकोसिस्टम पृथ्वी की सतह का लगभग 10 प्रतिशत कवर करता है। वह क्षेत्र जहां शाकीय पेड़ पौधों तथा मुख्य रूप पोएसी कुल के पौधों का प्रभुत्व होता है , उसे घास भूमि कहा जाता है । घास भूमि के क्षेत्रों में साइपरेसी एवं जंकेसिया कुल के पौधे भी पाये जाते हैं।

विश्व में मुख्य रूप से दो प्रकार की घास भूमि पाई जाती है जो कि इस प्रकार है:
There are mainly two types of grasslands found in the world which are as follows:

1. उष्णकटिबंधीय घास भूमि (tropical grassland)
2. शीतोष्ण कटिबंधीय घास भूमि (temperate grassland)

Tropical Grasslands are:

• East Africa- Savanna
• Brazil- Campos
• Venezuela- Llanos

The tropical grassland is home to elephants, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, zebras, and other spectacular species.

Temperate Grasslands are:

• Argentina- Pampas
• America- Prairie
• South Africa- Veld
• Asia- Steppe
• Australia- Down

For instance, some vegetation that grows here are, cacti, sagebrush, perennial grasses, buffalo grass clovers, and wild indigos, etc.

It is generally found in temperate climates. Where rainfall is around 15–75 cm per year, not enough to support a forest, but more is better than a desert. They are known by different names in different regions of the world such as steppes in Europe and Asia, pampas in South America, velds in South Africa, and downs in Australia. In India, they are mainly found in the higher Himalayas. The grasslands of the rest of India mainly consist of steppes and savannas. Large areas of sandy and saline soils are occupied by steppe formations.
यह आमतौर पर समशीतोष्ण जलवायु में पाए जाते हैं। जहां वर्षा लगभग 15-75 सेमी प्रति वर्ष होती है वह जंगल का समर्थन करने के लिए पर्याप्त नहीं है, लेकिन रेगिस्तान से अधिक बेहतर है। इन्हें दुनिया के हर क्षेत्र में एक अलग-अलग नामों से जाना जाता है जैसे यूरोप और एशिया में स्टेप्स, साउथ अमेरिका में पम्पस, साउथ अफ्रीका में वेल्ड और ऑस्ट्रेलिया में डाउंस। भारत में, वे मुख्य रूप से उच्च हिमालय में पाए जाते हैं। शेष भारत के घास के मैदान मुख्य रूप से स्टेप्स और सवाना से मिलकर बने हैं। रेतीले और खारे मिट्टी के बड़े क्षेत्रों पर स्टेपी संरचनाओं का कब्जा है।
