Recently, the Corruption Perception Index-2020 has been released by Transparency International.
The key points of the Index:
- Corruption Perception Index -2020 is Released by Transparency International: India has slipped six places to number 86 in 180 countries in the Corruption Perception Index -2020. This year the score in India’s Anti-Corruption Index is 40 points.
- India’s score is also lower than that of China, scoring 42 with a rank of 78. At the same time, America is 67th, Pakistan 124th and Nepal 117th.
- New Zealand and Denmark rank first in the Corruption Perception Index -2020 with a score of 88. At the same time, Somalia and South Sudan are at the bottom of the table with 12 scores.
- India’s score in the Index is below both the global average and the Asia-Pacific average. The report said that India still lags far behind the corruption index.
- According to Transparency International, most countries still fail to deal with corruption effectively.
- Significantly, in the year 2019, India was ranked 80th in this Index, while in the year 2018, it was 78th.
- However, critics point out that the Corruption Perception Index does not reflect the actual level of corruption in any country.
What is Corruption Perception Index?
- The Corruption Perception Index (CPI) is released to measure the level of corruption in the public sector in any country.
- A scale from zero to 100 is used in this Index, where the country with zero scores is considered the most corrupt and the one with 100 scores is considered the cleanest.

हाल ही में ट्रांसपेरेंसी इंटरनेशनल द्वारा भ्रष्टाचार बोध सूचकांक-2020 को जारी किया गया है।
क्या है इस सूचकांक से जुड़े मुख्य तथ्य एवं भारत की इसमें स्थिति?
- ट्रांसपेरेंसी इंटरनेशनल द्वारा जारी भ्रष्टाचार बोध सूचकांक-2020 में 180 देशों में भारत का स्थान छह पायदान फिसलकर 86वें नंबर पर आ गया है। इस वर्ष भारत का भ्रष्टाचार बोध सूचकांक में स्कोर 40 अंक है।
- भारत का स्कोर चीन की तुलना में भी कम है, जिसने 78 के रैंक के साथ 42 का स्कोर किया। वहीं अमेरिका अमेरिका 67 वें, पाकिस्तान 124 वें और नेपाल 117वें स्थान पर हैं।
- भ्रष्टाचार बोध सूचकांक-2020 में न्यूजीलैंड और डेनमार्क 88 के स्कोर के साथ पहले स्थान पर रहे हैं। जबकि सोमालिया और दक्षिण सूडान 12 स्कोर के साथ सबसे निचले पायदान पर हैं।
- सूचकांक में भारत का स्कोर वैश्विक औसत और एशिया-प्रशांत दोनों औसत से नीचे है। रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि भारत अब भी भ्रष्टाचार सूचकांक में काफी पीछे है।
- ट्रांसपेरेंसी इंटरनेशनल के मुताबिक, अधिकांश देश अभी भी भ्रष्टाचार से प्रभावी ढंग से निपटने में विफल हैं।
- गौरतलब है कि वर्ष 2019 में भारत, इस सूचकांक में 80वें स्थान पर था, जबकि वर्ष 2018 में 78वें स्थान पर था।
- हालांकि आलोचकों का कहना है कि भ्रष्टाचार बोध सूचकांक किसी भी देश में भ्रष्टाचार के वास्तविक स्तर को नहीं दर्शाता है।

- भ्रष्टाचार बोध सूचकांक (सीपीआई), किसी भी देश में सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र में व्याप्त भ्रष्टाचार के स्तर को मापने हेतु जारी किया जाता है।
- इस सूचकांक में शून्य से लेकर 100 तक के पैमाने का उपयोग किया जाता है, जहां शून्य स्कोर वाले देश को सबसे अधिक भ्रष्ट माना जाता है और 100 स्कोर वाले को सबसे साफ माना जाता है।
